Drink Water to Lose Belly Fat

Drink Water to Lose Belly Fat

Should you drink water to lose belly fat? Some claim that it is possible to lose belly simply by drinking a lot of water. But if it is that easy to lose belly fat, an obvious question is: Why do people even have belly fat to begin with? I mean, we all drink water, don’t we?

As it turns out, just drinking regular water is not going to help you lose belly fat. According to the claims, you need to drink really cold water – and lots of it – to burn belly fat. But are these claims supported by credible science? No, not really. Some studies seem to suggest that drinking cold water slightly elevates metabolism, which could potentially help you burn more calories, but there are two problems with these studies.

First of all, the elevation of metabolism is not statistically significant, which means that even if drinking really cold water helps burn a few extra calories, you are not going to create a meaningful calorie deficit that you need to lose weight.

Second, these studies do not show that you can pick and choose which part of your body will lose bodyfat. In other words, in the best case scenario you can expect to lose some bodyfat, but it is not going to be just your belly fat; if you lose weight by drinking cold water, you will lose weight evenly, from all parts of your body. In short, you cannot spot reduce belly fat.
