How to Lose Belly Fat at a Healthy Pace

During the summer we see people trying to lose belly fat to prepare for swimsuit season. It is possible to trim down and lose belly fat in a relatively short period of time.  For people with just a few pounds to lose, 1-2 pounds of weight loss per week is a good, healthy target. As the pounds melt away, belly fat melts away too.

Unfortunately, too many people will go on strict starvation diets hoping to lose 5 pounds in a week or 10 pounds in 10 days.  These extremely low calorie diets are not good for your body, and they tend to cause a rebound effect.  The rebound effect is caused by your body going into starvation mode because of the lack of food that it is getting.

When your body hits starvation mode, it tries to store away as much fat as it can, including belly fat, in order to help you survive. Many of the quick fix diets end up sending your weight up and down like a yo-yo because of this effect. There’s nothing wrong with dieting to get rid of belly fat, but do it sensibly. Losing a pound or two every week will get you there without triggering your body to store fat.

Exercise helps get rid of belly fat too. Something as easy as one hour of riding a bicycle each day can result in losing a pound a week without changing your diet at all.  If you can also cut your daily intake of calories by 500 per day, you should reach your goal of losing two pounds a week with no problem.
