Use Pedometer to Lose Belly Fat

Use Pedometer to Lose Belly Fat

Counting your steps with a pedometer each day can help you increase your daily physical activity and burn more calories. In turn, burning more calories will help you lose belly fat. However, many people are missing one important part of the calculation when they track their steps. It is important to start with a baseline measurement. The baseline will tell you how many steps you are already taking each day in your normal daily activity.

I am sorry to say, these steps do not count toward your weight loss goal. Losing weight means increasing the amount of calories you burn each day, not just counting how many you are already burning.

So wear your pedometer for a week without changing any of your walking habits.  Record the number of steps you take every day to identify your starting point. Then, after establishing that baseline, look for ways to increase your steps count above and beyond your baseline score. It is these extra steps that will help you lose belly fat, but how many extra steps does it take to lose a pound of belly fat?

That depends on your weight and your walking speed. A good average is about 42 calories for every 1000 steps. It means that if you can increase the number of steps you take every day by 6000 steps above your baseline score, you will lose an extra pound every two weeks. Remember, that is in addition to any weight you lose by eating less or any additional exercise program.
